Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has announced that the President, Muhammadu Buhari will unveil the newly designed naira notes on Wednesday.
Emefiele made the announcement on Tuesday during the Monetary Policy Committee’s monthly meeting in Abuja.
The newly designed naira notes are N1,000, N500, and N200 notes.
The governor stated that the apex bank would not postpone the January 31, 2023 deadline for all old notes to be deposited with commercial banks.
Emefiele announced on October 26, 2022 that the CBN would issue the redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 notes on December 15, 2022. He has, however, stated that the CBN will not wait until December 15, but will reveal on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. (tomorrow).
“100 days is enough for any Nigerian from any part of the country to deposit his money in the bank and get his money when the new notes are released,” he said.
“For the record, we are no longer waiting until December 15th to unveil and begin releasing the new notes.”
“By the special grace of God, the President has graciously accepted to unveil the new currencies tomorrow, November 23rd, 2022, and the new currencies will be unveiled tomorrow at the Federal Executive Chamber by 10am.”
