The administration of Muhammadu Buhari lost its Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

On Thursday, a close family member of the deceased confirmed the death to Tribune Online.

Former Abia State governor Onu passed away in an undisclosed Nigerian hospital following a brief illness.

Remember that in the general election of 2023, the late 72-year-old former minister ran as an All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, but President Bola Tinubu defeated him?

Up until his passing in April 2024, Onu was a politician, writer, and engineer from Nigeria.

In addition to serving as Nigeria’s minister of science, technology, and innovation from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022, he was the state’s first civilian governor of Abia.

OnuThe ministry’s longest-serving minister was the governor of Abia State.
