A 400-level student, Binta Isa of the Faculty of Education, Bayero University, Kano State, was found dead in her hostel on Friday, November 26.

The Deputy Registrar, Public Public Affairs of the University, Lamara Garba, confirming her death, said the deceased passed away around 7 pm after complaining of acute chest pain.

In a statement by the University Director, Health Services, Dr Gezawa, the late student had previously visited the New Campus Clinic on Wednesday, complaining of chest pain and was administered drugs.

The Director disclosed that the student had responded to treatment and attended her lectures on Thursday and Friday.

Part of the statement read, “On Friday, November 26, 2021, in the evening around the period of Magrib prayer, her symptoms relapsed, and she complained of chest pain to her roommates, but she managed to perform ablution and prayed the Maghrib prayer in the room.”

However, her roommates were shocked a few minutes later after meeting her lying lifeless on the floor.

They immediately raised the alarm, and Binta was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, who was confirmed dead by the doctors.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, in the company of the University Registrar, Malam Jamil Ahmad Salim, Director University Health Services, Dr Gezawa, as well as the Director of Security, Abdulyakin Ibrahim were all at the hospital to ascertain the situation.

“As a tradition, the university management has contacted and briefed the deceased’s brother, who resides in Kano, about the situation,” the statement read.

The management also expressed sadness over her death at a prime age and extended heartfelt condolences to her parents, relatives, and colleagues.
