The Christain Association of Nigerian (CAN), Kaduna State Chapter has called on residents to use the forthcoming local government election as a yardstick to shame enemies of progress and prove that they are peace-loving people.

The State Chairman of CAN, Reverend John Joseph Ayab, stated this in a press statement available to the media in Kaduna yesterday.

CAN appeal to the citizens not to allow enemies if progress to hide under the election and plunge the state into another round of crisis which can only draw it back into more pains and sorrows.

Reverend Ayab said in the last few years, the state has significantly suffered from banditry, kidnapping, and different violent conflicts, which have affected many lives, disrupt education calendars and economic activities

“Citizens of our dear state must use this election to prove critics wrong that Kaduna people are peace lovers and only want to be treated with respect and allow to choose leaders of their choice without manipulations.”

“Government should therefore ensure this election is free and fair, respect the will of the people, and allow the election umpire to carry out their duty without interference.”

“We are appealing to all aspirants and their political parties to eschew divisive politics by avoiding any inflammatory statements before, during, and after the elections. We pray to see a good spirit of genuine sportsmanship from them.

“Our last appeal is that our security agencies to be on the side of the people by providing security and protect innocent citizens from boosting their confidence so that the exercise will be violent-free that will produce leaders that will govern us well and provide quality service to the people”, he said.
