The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has organised a one-day seminar to sensitise teachers on the importance of Information Communication and Technology for career guidance amongst secondary school students in Kano.

The training was held on Tuesday, 19 April, with Fifty officers and teachers from the Science and Technical School Board Kano to coach participants on making students see beyond education and nurture them to be more creative and innovative, especially towards choosing a career path.

They were taught the use of ICT tools like social media, Jotform, Nearpod, Feeds, online quizzes and others in career counselling, Labour market dynamics and career counselling of young students in becoming critical thinkers.

Yunusa Zakaria Yau, CITAD’s Executive Director, explained that the programme’s objective is to expose the participants to new technics of career counselling and introduce them to these technological tools.

“In the past, people needed money to be in business, and then it changed to having certificates and networks; today, what you need is creativity to unleash innovation.

“Creativity is money, certificate and network in one”. He said.

Mal. Yunusa lastly advised the participants to adopt ICT counselling methods in their respective schools to build their students to choose a career path for the betterment of society.
