The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has commissioned a multi-billion Naira rice mill factory, Gerawa Rice Mills LTD with a milling capacity to produce 420 tonnes of Paddy rice per day in Kano.
Emefiele said the establishment of the rice mill was part of the Federal government’s effort to diversify Nigeria’s economy to Agriculture.
Emefiele at the event expressed optimism that the rice mill would improve food security in the country.

According to him, the Federal Government will continue to support farmers through its Anchor Borrowers Scheme across the country, just as said the Federal Government will continue to support Gerawa Mills Nigeria Limited when the need arises.
“This is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to diversify our economy. The Gerawa Rice Mills LTD will improve food security in the country.
‘’On our part, we will continue to supposed Farmers through our Anchor Borrowers Scheme Program. The Federal Government will also support the Gerawa Group of Companies whenever the need arises”.
Also speaking at the official commissioning of the rice mill, the Governor of Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje described the development as massive, adding that the newly commissioned rice mill will provide employment opportunities for residents in the State.
Ganduje further stressed that the development comes as a result of the Federal Governments’ policies under President Muhammadu Buhari.
“This is a massive development, these achievements will provide job opportunities for our teaming youth.
‘’This is achievable under President Buhari’s administration. Therefore, I want to commend the Federal Government for diversifying the economy”, he said.
The owner of multi-billion Naira rice mill project, the Chairman of Gerawa Group of Companies, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Gerawa, said the sum of N15bn was spent in setting up the company.
He added that, setting up the company was aimed at complementing the federal government’s efforts of ensuring that Nigeria as a nation attains food sufficiency.
Alhaji Gerawa however said the rice mill will provide jobs for about 20,000 youths in Kano State.
“We are hoping that job opportunities will be provided for 20 thousand youths, from Gerawa rice mill company”.
