Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel, has insisted that the club needs a ‘strong’ Kepa Arrizabalaga, in his squad.
Tuchel said this while explaining why he featured Kepa ahead of Edouard Mendy in the Blues’ Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Monday night.
Tuchel said Kepa had a good game in Chelsea’s FA Cup 1-0 victory over Barnsley last Thursday.
Two goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner gave Tuchel’s men all three points against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
“We need a strong Kepa in our squad,” Tuchel told reporters.
“He had a good game in the cup, so we decided to give him another match to build up a little bit of rhythm and confidence and to trust him because he did very good.”
“At the same time, it gives Edouard the chance to mentally recover.”
Chelsea’s next fixture is against Southampton next Saturday.
