Lagos, Nigeria – Renowned Nigerian actress Yvonne Jegede has candidly shared insights into her separation from ex-husband Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, which occurred in 2019.
Speaking in a snippet of an upcoming episode of “The Honest Bunch” podcast, Jegede revealed her regrets about prioritizing love over financial stability in her marriage.
Jegede opened up about one of the key factors contributing to their split: her ex-husband’s inability to handle jokes about their age difference.

“He’s eight years older than me, but the moment we got married, if I tell him he’s crazy, he would say I’m disrespecting him. It’s the same me, it’s the same joke that I’ve always made for over 10 years,” she explained.
When asked about her decision to leave the marriage, Jegede clarified that perceived disrespect was not the sole reason. “That was what made me pause, but it was not even close to what ended it,” she said.
She further disclosed that financial issues played a significant role in their separation. “I was bringing in more of the money. Today, I’m taking care of my son like nobody exists around me. It’s not easy and it’s not funny. I should have chosen financial stability,” she stated.
Jegede also recounted the challenges she faced during her pregnancy. “I got pregnant, he knew I was pregnant, and I would go stay at my friend’s house in Ikoyi,” she said, highlighting the difficulties she endured.
In 2019, Jegede confirmed the end of her marriage to fellow actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, barely a year after they had tied the knot. The mother of one continues to navigate life as a single parent, emphasizing the importance of financial independence and stability.
