The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civil Education, CHRICED, with support from the MacArthur Foundation and John D., has organized a community enlightenment workshop on the promotion of community-driven anti-corruption initiatives in Kano.

The workshop, which was held at the famous Mumbbayya House, was specifically organized for the citizen monitors of the 15 local government areas of Kano Central.

Participants were drawn from various pressure groups, development groups, and grassroots associations in the state to fast-track the proper implementation of the constituency projects.

In his welcome address, the executive director of CHRICED, Dr. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, said that the workshop is part and parcel of the project “community-driven initiatives on anti-corruption,” which aims to equip the participants with sufficient knowledge and skills in monitoring projects and allocations of funds to various constituencies.

Mr. Zikirullahi said, “The project is anchored on the need for state actors to fulfill their constitutional role as providers of social goods and services to the people.

He added that CHRICED is committed to the realization of a democratic Nigeria where participation, inclusion, and transparency are guaranteed and state and non-state actors actively collaborate towards accountable and responsive use of resources for the collective well-being of the citizens.”

He emphasized the need to promote accountability and inclusiveness in the execution of various projects initiated by leaders for the overall wellbeing of beneficiaries of such interventions.

The project is expected to run for a complete year with the support and partnership of the MacArthur Foundation and other relevant stakeholders and agencies in the state to reduce corruption in the process of implementing constituency projects in Kano.

The workshop was well attended by all the relevant stakeholders in the project. Participants were highly trained on how to fast-track the agenda of community-driven anti-corruption initiatives in Kano.
