In a bid to foster harmony among various religious adherents, a Nigerian church has distributed over 100 reading slates to Qur’anic schools in Kaduna in commemoration of the World Peace Day.
The General Overseer Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry located at Sabon Tasha Kaduna, Pastor Yohanna Buru led a delegation of his Church members to the distribution of the Arabic reading slates to some Almajiri schools in Kaduna communities so as to promote peace and harmony among the adherents of various religions .
He said the church has spent 3 days distributing the slates to over 100 Quranic schools, and other instructional materials which included pens and ink so as to boost the culture of reading and writing Arabic.
The cleric explained that the reading materials were donated to some Quranic schools at Rigasa, Mando, Tudun Wada and some parts of Igabi Local Government Area of the state.
“This is the 5th time the Church Is distributing Arabic reading slates to assist the Arabic students with other learning materials.
This is coming as the world celebrates World International Peace Day on 21st September amidst security challenges and high cost of living in both rural and urban areas,” he said.
Explaining why the Church is distributing the materials to Islamic schools despite differences in faith, he stated:
“We are doing this to strengthen Christian and Muslim relationship in the state and to promote religions tolerance for better understanding” the Pastor said.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony, Pastor Buru said the idea behind such exercise was borne out of his desire to continue to advocate for peaceful co-existence, religious tolerance, love and brotherhood among Muslims and Christians in the state.
“Distributing the Islamic studies materials would boost the students’ education and enhance the knowledge of the Arabic language,” he said.
He urged Muslims and Christians in the country to continue to work towards the attainment of peace and unity for the promotion of socio-economic development of the nation.
“The Church cannot forget what a Muslim woman, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, did to them when she distributed over 50 bibles to us.
“The same woman shared wrappers, clothes and other food items to Christian widows and orphans to celebrate Christmas and New Year,” he recalled.
He, however, called on UNESCO, UNICEF and the Federal Government to support the education of the Almajiri child, saying that the church always shares hundreds of plastics kettles and Mats for prayers and this is to promote peace and tolerance.”
