An Abia State High Court presided over by Hon. Justice Benson Anya in Umuahia has ordered the Federal Government to pay N1bn damage in favour of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In the ruling, Mr Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, stated that the Federal Government violated the IPOB leader’s fundamental rights, seeking N5bn damage against the Federal Government over the alleged invasion of his father’s house on September 10, 2017, by the military.
The Court also recommended a political solution to the agitation for the restoration of the defunct Biafra Republic championed by IPOB.

Kanu’s lawyer made this known in a tweet, saying, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu WINS as Abia High Court rules that the Federal Government violated his fundamental rights. Orders the Federal government to pay N1b to him and issue a letter of apology to him.”
The presiding judge also granted the relief sought by Kanu’s legal team, ordering the Federal Government to issue a public apology in three national dailies over the illegal invasion of Kanu’s Afaraukwu residence. (Punch)
