A federal high court in Kano state has issued an order suspending the activities of two commissions of enquiry set up by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to investigate his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Daily News 24 recalls that Governor Yusuf had inaugurated two commissions of enquiry – the first to look into political violence and missing persons while the second was mandated to probe alleged misappropriation of public assets and property from 2015 to 2023, the years under which Mr Ganduje governed the state.
The two panels, led by Justices Zuwaira Yusuf and Faruk Lawan, have since commenced sitting and receiving memoranda from the public.
However, Mr Ganduje, who is the current National Chairman of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), headed to the court to seek relief from the Kano government’s probe.

In an ex-parte motion filed by Ganduje, the two justices, the Kano state attorney general, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the National Judicial Council (NJC) were listed as respondents.
Granting the order, Justice S.A. Amobeda, restrained the two justices “from performing the executive functions assigned to them by the Governor of Kano state in court rooms meant to adjudicate disputes between persons and authorities in Kano, pending the hearing and determination of the instant suit.”
The judge also granted an order “directing the two commissions of inquiry instituted by the Governor of Kano State from conducting any further proceedings until after the determination of the instant suit.”
It was also ordered that the case will be given an accelerated hearing and was subsequently adjourned to May 28 for hearing.
