A federal high court sitting in Kano state has issued an ex parte order stopping the Kano state government from reinstating Muhammad Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
Daily News 24 reports that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday announced the reinstatement of Mr Sanusi, who was deposed from the throne in 2020 by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Governor Yusuf made the announcement after signing a new law that dissolved the five emirates and sacked the five emirs of Bichi, Kano, Rano, Karaye and Gaya, which were created by Mr Ganduje.
Mr Sanusi is expected visit the Kano Government House on Friday, where he would receive his reappointment letter from Mr Yusuf.

However, in a suit filed by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan-Agundi, a member of the dissolved Kano Emirate under deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado,Bayero, the Federal High Court ordered all parties to maintain status quo.
The court, presided over by Justice A.M Liman ordered “that in order to maintain the peace and security of the state, an Interim Injunction of this Honourable Court Is
granted restraining the 5th to 8th Respondents from enforcing, executing implementing and operationlizing the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law.
Justice Liman also ordered “that parties are hereby ordered to maintain status quo ante the passage and assent of the bill into pending the hearing of the Fundamental Rights application.”
The parties joined in the suit are: Kano state government, Kano State House of Assembly, Speaker, Kano Assemby, Attorney-General of Kano State, Commissioner of Police, Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) as well as the Department of State Services (DSS).
The respondents are numbered from 1st to 8th respectively.
Subsequently, the court adjourned the case to June 3, 2024 for hearing of the fundamental rights application.
