A crocodile killed a woman who was bathing in a river in eastern Indonesia, police and local residents reported on Wednesday.
Villagers later recovered parts of her body from the crocodile after it was killed.
Indonesia is known for its diverse species of crocodiles, which are notorious for occasionally attacking and killing humans.

The woman, identified as Rahakbauw, was reported missing when she did not return home after bathing in the river. Her neighbor, Rustam Ilyas, said that relatives and friends immediately began searching for her.
During the search, villagers discovered a sandal and a body part in the river, prompting them to report the incident to the police. The authorities then killed the crocodile responsible for the attack.
“The villagers had to cut open the crocodile’s belly to remove some of the victim’s body parts,” a local police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, stated on Wednesday.
Ilyas added, “The crocodile was quite big, around four meters (12 feet) long.”
Neither the police nor the villagers were able to identify the exact species of the crocodile.
This tragic incident comes just days after a 63-year-old tin miner was killed by a crocodile near a river on Bangka Island in Sumatra. Crocodile attacks are not uncommon in Indonesia; in 2018, nearly 300 crocodiles were slaughtered by a mob in Papua as an act of revenge after a local man was killed by one of the reptiles.
