Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, has shut down following the death of a 12-year-old student, Sylvester Oromoni, who was tortured for refusing to join a cult group.

The staff and students of the college were directed to stay away from the school as tension mount in the institution.

In an email sent to the parents and guardians, the management asked students to stay at home on Friday and Monday.

“In view of the current situation concerning the school and considering the emotions of our students, we have advised that our students stay home tomorrow Friday 3rd and Monday 6th,” said the email seen on Twitter.

Dowen College added, “This will also afford the students the opportunity to revise for their forthcoming examinations starting next week.”

A tweet stated that policemen barricaded the school as young Oromoni’s death elicited outrage.
