To begin the show, Damian Priest won the 2023 men’s Money in the Bank match.
Ricochet and Logan Paul slipped on the top rope while trying to springboard, but both super athletes saved the spot by Ricochet hitting a Spanish Fly on Paul through two tables. Knight then ran wild on the rest of the field and was about to secure the briefcase when Priest chokeslammed him off the ladder and sprung the upset as a +200 underdog.
Priest’s victory is the latest in a long line of unexpected Money in the Bank winners, as fans at the O2 Arena were left disappointed by the lukewarm choice of Priest, who has suffered a string of losses recently.
Fans in London’s O2 Arena roared in support of LA Knight while booing Logan Paul. Paul and Knight were a fantastic yin and yang of adoration (Knight) and animosity (Paul).
The Money in the Bank field featured an eclectic mix of favourites (LA Knight), convincing darkhorses (Ricochet, Santos Escobar, Shinsuke Nakamura, Butch and Damien Priest), and wildcards (Logan Paul). Add in the fact that Money in the Bank has a long history of surprise winners, and despite the rise of LA Knight, this match felt like anyone’s game.
Throughout his feud with Bray Wyatt, fan reactions to LA Knight gradually improved, and Knight’s momentum seemed to take a turn for the better when he received overwhelmingly positive reactions during live shows inside Madison Square Garden, and then again in Los Angeles. WWE values big-city reactions, so when fans at MSG and Crypto.com Arena chanted “LA Knight,” WWE listened. Nothing seemed to be standing in the way of LA Knight’s biggest win of his career.
Logan Paul threw a monkey wrench into what appeared to be a foregone conclusion for the piping-hot LA Knight. Paul’s announcement as the final MITB combatant opened the floodgates of wrestling fans and analysts fantasising about the GOAT celebrity wrestler securing WWE’s elusive briefcase.
