Billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, father of music icon Davido, is gearing up to launch Nigeria’s largest power plant.
The $2 billion project, which is set for completion in January 2025, is expected to generate 1,250 megawatts of electricity, providing around 15 percent of the country’s power needs.

Adeleke, the founder of Pacific Energy, shared details of the project during the Seventh Day Adventist General Conference Annual Council held in Maryland, USA. He recounted the challenges he faced while securing the necessary environmental permits from government officials, one of whom told him the project “would never see the light of day.”
Despite these setbacks, Adeleke refused to give up. “I prayed to God because I couldn’t accept that as the final word,” he said. His company, Pacific Energy, is collaborating with Chinese engineering firms to deliver what will be the biggest power plant in Nigeria.
The project, financed in part by Afrexim Bank of China, faced delays due to bureaucratic hurdles. Adeleke reassured his concerned Chinese partners that the project would move forward, and after continued efforts and persistence, the necessary approval was granted by the then Minister of Power.
Adeleke had previously spoken about the project during a lecture at the 9th graduation ceremony of Adeleke University in July 2023, where he emphasized the importance of the power plant in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing electricity shortage.
The plant is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s power supply, helping to reduce the nation’s energy deficit and improve access to electricity across the country.
