Late on Friday night, a suspected arson attack set a section of the palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, ablaze at Gidan Rumfa.
Sources report that the fire specifically targeted the palace at Kofar Kudu.
According to Daily Trust, intruders forced open a side entrance, ignited the fire, and then locked the door behind them.

A source familiar with the incident stated, “the throne, air conditioners, and other valuable items within the palace were destroyed.”
In response, Munir Sanusi Bayero, Dan Buram Kano and Chief of Staff to His Highness, issued a statement on Saturday confirming the fire outbreak.
The statement, reported by SolaceBase, assured that no casualties occurred and that the damage was contained to the outer court of the palace.
“While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the palace administration is actively implementing measures to enhance security and prevent future occurrences,” the statement added.
