No fewer than 68 officers of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), Ebonyi Command, were decorated with their new ranks on Thursday with a charge to justify their promotions.
Mr. Ndubuisi Ogbodo, the State Controller of Corrections, who decorated the officers in Abakaliki, charged them to consider their elevation as a call for more productivity.
Ogbodo also told the officers that their promotions came with additional responsibilities, renewed commitment and dedication to duty.
“Today, we must laugh with those who are laughing and cry with those who are crying; and I have always told people that all these ranks we are wearing are creations of man.
“In the world you can be an Assistant Superintendent of Corrections 1 (ASC 1), but in the eyes of God you are Assistant Controller General of Corrections (ACGC).
“In the same vein, somebody may be ACGC in the eyes of men but an ASC 1 in the eyes of God, so whatever promotion we get, we must give glory to God,” Ogbodo said.
He also appealed to the newly-promoted officers to use their new status to impact positively on the lives of their families.
He said: “It is also of note that elevation in a job brings additional money in your pocket and responsibility.
“Let this new promotion be of good to your families because this is the critical aspect in your elevation.
“As you are now promoted use the increase to affect the lives of your family members both immediate and extended.”
Ogbodo also expressed happiness on the decoration of the affected officers adding that promotion was not an easy thing.
“God blesses people in different ways. There are those who may not be promoted this time, but next time they will be promoted,” he said.
“For those of you who are still expecting their promotion, I assure you that you will get it. Keep working hard, have faith in God and, surely, your promotion will come,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs. Elizabeth Ikpo and Mr. Nathaniel Enigwe were decorated with the rank of Assistant Controller of Corrections (ACC).
Also decorated were six Chief Superintendents of Corrections (CSC), and six Superintendents of Corrections (SC).
