Eden Hazard, Belgium national team player has announced his retirement from the national team, after crashing out of the world cup. Daily News24 brings you his biography.

Early Career

Eden Michael Walter Hazard (born 7 January 1991) is a Belgian professional footballer who currently plays for Real Madrid in La Liga as a winger or attacking midfielder. Hazard is regarded as one of the best players of his generation due to his creativity, dribbling, passing, and vision, although he hasn’t been his best after leaving Chelsea for Madrid.

Hazard was born into a football family, so football was in his blood. His father and mother were both footballers who had played in Belgian leagues. He joined Royal Stade Brainois at the age of four and trained with them for eight years.

Hazard made his international debut for Belgium against Luxembourg on November 19, 2008, replacing Wesley Sonck in the 67th minute. On August 12, 2009, he made his first appearance for the squad in a friendly against Czech Republic. Belgium, on the other hand, lost the game 1-3.

As of December 2022, Eden Hazard’s net worth is $100 Million.

Eden Hazard in Chelsea

Chelsea

Hazard joined the English club Chelsea in June 2012 after making over 190 appearances and scoring 50 goals for Lille. In his first season, he won the UEFA Europa League, and in his second, he was named PFA Young Player of the Year. Hazard helped Chelsea win the League Cup and Premier League in the 2014-15 season, earning him the FWA Footballer of the Year and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards, amongst many awards.

Real Madrid

Hazard established himself as one of the best players in the world during his time at Chelsea. On 7 June 2019, La Liga club Real Madrid announced on their website that Hazard would be signing for them for the 2019–20 season. On a deal worth £400,000 per week, he signed a contract until 30 June 2024 for a reported fee of €100 million, which could rise to €146.1 million due to additional fees.

Hazard overtook Gareth Bale as Madrid’s most expensive player after signing for €101 million in 2013. If any of the conditions are met, he will become Madrid’s most expensive player in club history.

Injury spell at Madrid

Hazard’s fitness has been a source of concern since joining Real Madrid, as he missed the first month of the 2019-20 season with a muscle injury. He gradually improved and began to gel with the team until he suffered an ankle injury in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Hazard was out for 82 days before deciding to have surgery after a brief reappearance, which put him out for another 105 days.

Hazard suffered seven injuries in the 2020-21 season, six of which were muscle problems, preventing the Belgium captain from finding any form when he did play.

In the current 2021-22 season, he has missed only 26 days of Real Madrid’s campaign, but he has yet to find a starting spot.

2022 FIFA World Cup and retirement

Hazard was chosen for Belgium’s FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign, where he assisted once in a 5-2 win over Estonia and scored once in a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic. Belgium manager Roberto Martinez later praised him.

Following Belgium’s group stage exit from the 2022 World Cup, Eden Hazard announced his retirement from the national team on December 7, 2022, at the age of 31.

It is not clear if he has called it quit in the game of football but what we can certainly say at Daily News24, is that Hazard has quit international football.
