The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started investigating allegations of misused campaign funds and unpaid party agents by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) during the 2023 presidential and governorship elections.

The party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, was invited to provide evidence against Senator Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs. Folashade Aliu, who are accused of misappropriating party funds through a secret account, Vanguard reports.

The investigation may also examine the sudden wealth of Dipo Olayokun, a signatory to the party’s account, and how he acquired properties in Abuja within two years. Other signatories include Rufai Alkali and Abba Kawu.

Comrade Oginni confirmed that he was invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja to provide statements and clarification on the petition he signed on behalf of the party, alleging a N2.5 billion fraud by Senator Kwankwaso and his team.

He expressed satisfaction with the professionalism of the EFCC officers and stated that he answered questions related to the petition without any harassment or intimidation. The EFCC is seeking to verify the allegations and ensure that the investigation is free from bias or ulterior motives.

Following the National Secretary’s appearance before the EFCC, the investigation is now underway, and Senator Kwankwaso can expect to receive an invitation to respond to the allegations soon.
