eFootball, formerly known as Pro Evolution Soccer, has had its worldwide release today and is already under fire by fans of the football game.

The free-to-play game is now only available to download digitally and is seen as the main competitor to EA’s FIFA franchise – which is released this Friday, October 1.

One thing that sets eFootball above the rest is the fact it has the licensing for some top European clubs: Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus and FC Bayern, however, the glaring issues in this year’s release is not a great advertisement for the game.

When you think of modern football, the two most talented, globally known stars that come to mind are Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, so you’d expect the pair to have accurate face scans and look as close to their real life selves as possible.

One look at the images of the two in game is enough to make you uninstall, as there is a serious lack of resemblance – especially when in comparison to the stars on FIFA.

And the disappointment doesn’t end there. Fans have shared some of their in-game footage to Twitter, and there’s some pretty questionable things happening.

For example, Nicolas Otamendi appears to suffer a dislocated shoulder/broken arm during one game whilst trying to avoid the ever threatening Pepe, whereas Barcelona’s Ansu Fati looks as if he’s trying to attempt a ‘Naruto Run’ with his arms flailing behind him.

As if that’s not enough, games are only five minutes long, which you might be used to when playing demo versions, but not the full thing.

Fans seem particularly disappointed as many were relishing the prospect of a new alternative to FIFA, and a massive bonus for the game is that it’s free to download, as opposed to FIFA’s £55 price tag. [GMS]
