Emir of Kano urges media to sensitize public on voters’ registration

The Emir of Kano state, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero has tasked youths to obtain their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general election.

This was noted in a press gathering organized by the Kano state emirate council, advisory committee on economic and social matters to discuss on voters registration exercise and developing synergy towards sensitizing the public.

Halilu Baba Dantiye mni, in an opening remark, said the media has the capacity and plays a vital role in educating the public on the essence of obtaining voters’ cards.

Sarkin Shanun Kano, Alhaji Shehu Muhammed, cleared that Kano state is blessed with a high population which helped towards democratic development.

“Obtaining a voters’ card is part of political development which citizens should embrace to vote for their rightful representatives.

Alhaji Shehu added that Kano state provided the highest number of voters in the previous election that was held in 2019, stressing the need of doubling the effort in 2023.

“We invited stakeholders to discuss issues bedeviling the public and media has the power to influence the minds of the audience.

“Voters card Register is necessary because it is the backbone to voting representatives in the country”. He said

He stressed that all eligible voters should possess their PVC and for those with corrections should ensure they do on time.

The Emir called on the media to sensitize people at urban and local level on how to obtain Permanent Voters Card, adding that the voters card can be registered through mobile phones.

Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero called on clerics and CSOs to enlighten their followers on the necessity of voters’ registration.

He commended the state government for ensuring a committee developed to serve and regulate the process of voters’ card registration.

“The Federal government and states should strive towards building its citizens, ensuring security and also the public should pray most especially in this month of Ramadan”. He noted.

NUJ Chairman Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim commended the effort of the Emir towards ensuring development and capacity building in the state, ensuring that the media will use it capacity to enlighten the public on the essence of PVC.

It is noted that the closing for voters registration will end on 30th July 2022.
