The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mother hippopotamus may have perceived Maigadi, who was 60 years old, as a threat to her baby, prompting the attack in self-defense.

Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, Chairman of Yauri Local Government, confirmed that the late Maigadi had been buried according to Islamic rites after a funeral prayer held in Yauri.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences to Yauri Emirate and the family of the deceased.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, the governor urged the family and the emirate to accept the will of Allah in good faith. He prayed for the deceased’s shortcomings to be forgiven and for Allah to grant him mercy.
