Chelsea have reportedly identified two players to sign in the near future as contract negotiations with Mason Mount stall.
The two players are Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino, according to The Telegraph.
Chelsea is interested in both Pellegrini and Pino ahead of the January transfer window.
Mount’s contract with Chelsea is set to expire in June 2024, and the club has been in talks to extend it.
The Blues are looking to strengthen their midfield after an indifferent start to the Premier League season, which has left them in eighth place on the table, eight points behind fourth-placed Tottenham heading into the World Cup.
However, negotiations are said to have reached a “stalemate,” and Chelsea and Mount are still far apart.
According to the report, the west London club is looking to strengthen manager Graham Potter’s midfield options, and both Pellegrini and Pino are on their shortlist.
Pellegrini has been impressive for Roma this season and has been linked with a January move to Chelsea’s Premier League rival Newcastle United.
Pino, on the other hand, has struggled for consistency this season in La Liga. In 13 league games, he has only scored one goal and provided no assists.
