United were stunned by Ilkay Gundogan’s first-minute strike, but Bruno Fernandes’s penalty brought them level before halftime. City scored after halftime to win the cup.
Gundogan’s second volley off a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick eluded David De Gea, who had saved the winning goal. United failed to equalise and watched their local rivals win the FA Cup and possibly match United’s unprecedented treble next weekend.
United’s relatively successful season ended with a heartbreaking post from youngster Alejandro Garnacho at Wembley. At full-time, Rashford made sure his teammates didn’t mope.
