On the first day of the #EndBadGovernance protest, the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and one of the network providers in Nigeria, MTN, have come under attack as Nigerians lamented poor network issues.

The protest, which is scheduled to last for ten days, began today across the country.

As the protest kicked off, many Nigerians took to social media to report “low network issues” and accused MTN of “conniving with the federal government to frustrate the protest.”

Dailynews24 had previously reported that Nigerians stormed MTN offices across the nation on Monday, over disconnection of subscribers from the network over the weekend.

The network provider faced accusations of working with the federal government to hinder the protest, leading the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to order “the immediate reconnection of subscribers.” This prompted the “immediate closure of all MTN outlets across the country.”

In Lagos State, a protester in his late 50s, who has participated in numerous protests, advised fellow demonstrators to “be vigilant.” He warned, “Nigerians have to be careful. I have seen many ungenuine activists in this ongoing protest, and their intentions might not be pure.”

He further cautioned, “Some of the people I have seen in this protest are the same individuals that caused havoc during the October 2020 EndSARS protest, and they might want to repeat the same havoc. It might not be today, but subsequently, as the protest proceeds.”
