The Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun, has approved the appointment of Dr Joseph Petinrin, as the Acting Rector of the institution, with effect from Nov. 3.
The Chairman of the Council, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (rtd.), presented the appointment letter, dated Oct. 27, to Petinrin at a sent-off organised for the outgoing rector, Dr John Adekolawole, on Saturday in Ede.
Jekada, while presenting the letter, said that the appointment of Petinrin was sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing tenure, Adekolawole on Oct. 31.
Until his appointment, Petinrin was the Deputy Rector (Academics).
Born on Sept. 2, 1962 in Ipetu Ijesa, Oriade Local Government Area of Osun, Petinrin studied Electrical/Electronic at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in 1988.
He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma (Technical Education) from the University of Jos in 1991 and a Master in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1998, as well as a doctorate from the Universiti Teknologi, Skudai, Johor, Malaysia in 2015.
Jekada, however, appealed to members of the polytechnic to support the acting rector to make the institution a better place.
Jekada, who described the outgoing rector as a hardworking person, said that he performed creditably during his tenure.
“I don’t have any regrets working with the outgoing rector. If I am to grade his performance, I will give him 95 per cent.
“Everybody should, therefore, be thinking of how to make this place a better place. The rector is going but the institution remains.
“Pending the time a substantive rector will be appointed, the acting rector was elected according to the Polytechnic Act and everything was done to get a capable hand to continue the good work”, he said.
In his remarks, the acting rector said he would continue from where the outing rector stopped.
He solicited the support and co-operation of all the lecturers and union leaders for him to succeed.
Petinrin, however, said that he would not tolerate indiscipline and corruption.
“Let us work together to raise the standards of this institution and bring its glory together”, he said.
In his remarks, the outgoing rector expressed appreciation to the staff and students for their support.
