Ferland Mendy’s return has had to be put on hold. The Frenchman was injured on the eve of Real Madrid’s LaLiga Santander clash with Celta Vigo, and he has now been ruled out for three more weeks with a muscle problem.

Carlo Ancelotti had hoped that Mendy would have been fit to play at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu last Sunday, but the 26-year-old was in some discomfort after the final session prior to the game.

Mendy will now be out of action for another 21 days – give or take – but international fixtures will see him out for around a month. The break, though, comes as good news for the left-back, as it will allow him more time to get back up to speed and full fitness without needing to rush.

Los Blancos face Valencia, Real Mallorca, Villarreal, Sheriff, and Espanyol before Mendy is likely to be fit to play again on October 17 against Athletic Club at the Bernabeu.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that Marcelo is also out of action and unlikely to return before the international window, so Nacho Fernandez and Miguel Gutierrez are Ancelotti’s options at left-back for now.

David Alaba has also had some physical problems of late and is being closely monitored. [Marca]
