The Federal Government has announced plans to re-evaluate the merger of federal technical colleges and science schools with the aim of separating them.

Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, disclosed this at a one-day stakeholdersโ€™ meeting on the challenges and issues affecting technical colleges in the country.

Mamman expressed displeasure over the merging of technical colleges with colleges of science, stating that it has eroded the gains achieved by establishing technical colleges nationwide.

He explained that technical colleges should be exclusively for students with an interest in technical education.

According to Mamman, those pursuing science programs should attend regular colleges to preserve the distinct educational focus of each institution. He described the merger as a clear mistake that has compromised the effectiveness of technical education.

Mamman also bemoaned the low enrollment of students in technical colleges, noting that these institutions are essential for teaching skills that can transform the country.
