The Federal Government says it has inaugurated disbursement of cash grant to vulnerable groups in Nasarawa State.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouk, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, inaugurated the cash grant and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) on Friday in Lafia.
The minister who was represented by Dr Abubakar Suleiman, Director, Disaster Management in the ministry, said that the intervention was meant to uplift the less- privileged and vulnerable citizens nation wide.
She urged the beneficiaries to invest the money judiciously.
According to her, the cash grant to vulnerable groups as well as the GEEP are part of the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).
“The cash grant for rural women is designed to provide one-off grant for N20,000 to the poorest and most vulnerable in rural areas and semi-urban areas across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
“More than 1,142,783 potential beneficiaries were registered across the 774 local government areas of the country of which 25,000 potential beneficiaries were from Nasarawa State located across the 13 local government areas of the state,” she said.
The minister said that the programme had targeted more than 3,000 beneficiaries across the 13 local government areas in Nasarawa State for the disbursement of the cash grant.
In his remarks, Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving Nasarawa State the opportunity to benefit from all the social intervention programme.
He also commended the ministry for exhibiting exemplary leadership, which had contributed to the successes recorded in the implementation of the various Intervention programme in the state.
“This is no doubt enhancing the leaving condition of the people of the state and I assured you of our support in our collective commitment to touch the lives of our people,” Sule added.
Earlier, the Focal Person, National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP) in Nasarawa Dtate, Imran Usman-Jibrin, said that the programme was geared towards ensuring a more equitable distributions of resources to vulnerable populations, including children, the youth and women.
“Since 2016, these programmes combined have supported more than 20 million direct and indirect beneficiaries country-wide through a fair and transparent processes of implementations.” he said
Usman-Jibrin, therefore, lauded Buhari for initiating programmes that touched the lives of the poor and the vulnerable in society.
He also appreciated Sule for being passionate about the implementation of the programme in the state. (NAN)
