The Federal Government on Friday evacuated 196 Nigerians who were stranded in India back to the country.

The evacuation exercise was coordinated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies.

The returnees, who arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja via Ethiopian Air ET8689 at exactly 17HRS, were received by a reception team led by NEMA and other relevant agencies.

They were given a token of one hundred US dollars or equivalent for transportation to their various homes after being profiled and screened.

The returnees were advised to be law-abiding by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, who was represented by Deputy Director in the ministry Suleiman Abubakar.

The Minister said the token provided by the federal government was meant to support the movement of the returnees back home.

The returnees thanked the Federal Government for the special intervention in their safe evacuation back home and also appealed to the government to fix them somewhere they can be more useful to the country.
