There was a major fire outbreak on the Lagos State University (LASU) campus in Ojo, Lagos, on Friday.
The fire affected no fewer than seven offices including Directorate of Internal Audit; Bursar’s office; Risk Insurance & Investment.
Others are Bursar Mini Registry & Reception; Payroll & Pension Unit; Budget & Budgetary Control and Deputy Director Office.
A preliminary report from the state emergency management agency (LASEMA) indicated that the fire outbreak occurred in the Directorate of Internal Audit (Property management unit) office located on the 4th Floor of the building.
Investigation conducted by the Agency’s response team revealed the immediate cause was due to power surge which emanated from the said office.
The electric inverter from the office led to the incident, it was learnt.
Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said while no lives were lost, the Directorate office was grossly affected by the inferno.
“The fire damage has extended to some of the ceiling claddings. he fire was promptly put out by the Lagos Fire Service and Agency responders.”
“A post disaster risk assessment is ongoing with a view at identifying any potential hazards and secondary incident.”
LASEMA boss said after the post disaster risk was conducted, it was concluded that “there is no threat of any possible ignition to any of the office.”
“The member of staffs were sensitized on safety and precautionary measures needed to avoid such incident,” he added.
