One-storey building, located along Udensi Street in the Abakaliki metropolis has been gutted by fire.

The fire incident happened on Friday at about 1.30 pm.

Many tenants of the building lost their properties to the incident.

An eyewitness by name Chigozie Agu told Daily Trust that the incident was a result of a surge in the voltage of the electricity supply in the area.

One of the victims (tenants), Mr Onuigbo, who lost his properties, said the heavy nature of the fire, hindered him from saving any of his belongings from the building.

But, the Controller of the Ebonyi State Fire Service, Mr. Ibiam Raphael confirmed the incident.

However, the value of the properties destroyed were yet to be made public.

But Our Correspondent who visited the scene report that a affected victims were asking the state government to come to their aid.
