A devastating fire broke out at the Yola town main market in the Yola/South local government area of Adamawa state, causing destruction to property and goods.

The incident occurred on the grain street of the market, commonly referred to as “layin masu nika”.

The Divisional Police Officer Wuro Hausa, SP Suleiman Abdullahi, has already stationed his men to prevent any form of rancor or theft while they await the arrival of the fire service to put out the raging inferno.

Fortunately, the fire service was able to contain and extinguish the fire at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Monday.

Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, the Director, Adamawa Fire Service, has confirmed that 14 shelves were razed by fire in Yola Market.

He said that the directorate, with reinforcement from the Federal and Paro fire services, was able to quench the fire within an hour.

He added that the fire started as a result of a gas explosion from a local restaurant in the market.

“With the help of a combined team, we put out the fire within an hour.

“The fire was the result of a six-kilogram gas cylinder explosion in a local restaurant.”

According to him, no life was lost, and fire assessment officers are currently at the scene to ascertain the rate of damage.

Adamu called on the public to always ensure they turn off electrical appliances before going to bed and at the end of work from office and business premises.
