The Concerned Igbo Stakeholders Forum has condemned the recent killing of policemen at their duty posts within and at the outskirts of Enugu metropolis.

Leader of the forum, Mr Chukwuma Okenwa, gave the condemnation while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Sunday.

Hoodlums killed three policemen on Feb. 10 at their stop-and-search duty post at the Lomalida/Maryland axis of Enugu while a fourth one died while being conveyed to the hospital.

Also on Feb. 12, hoodlums killed yet another set of four policemen at their stop-and-search duty post at Obeagu community on Amaechi-Ekeotu-Agbani Town Road.

Okenwa described the development as “uncalled for and unfortunate’’.

He noted that the Igbo society placed high premium on and respects the sanctity of human life.

He said those killing and wasting the precious lives of police personnel should realise that those killed were breadwinners of their families.

“Our hearts go out to families of police officers killed on Thursday and Saturday while serving the people of Enugu State.

“That police officer out there is someone’s father, brother, uncle and husband, and as such, we should not rejoice when things like this happen.

“You may have had a sad experience with the Nigerian Police at one point or the other, but kindly note that every nation’s Police Force is a reflection of the quality of human capital development of her citizens.

“We must not forget in haste that Nigerian police officers are selected from among Nigerians,’’ he said.

Okenwa urged people of goodwill and good conscience to continue to pray for the personnel of the Nigerian Police in these trying times.
