The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, of orchestrating the intimidation and harassment of Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity to the Kano State Government.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Kano, NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, alleged that the Nigeria Police were acting on Ganduje’s directives or on behalf of individuals associated with him.

Johnson said the attempts to arrest Dawakin-Tofa blatantly disregarded a court injunction restraining the police from such actions.
“This repeated harassment, including the intimidation of his family, is a flagrant violation of the rule of law and an abuse of power,” Johnson stated, adding that Dawakin-Tofa had gone into hiding to evade what he described as an unlawful arrest.
Johnson criticized the APC-led government for undermining the legal framework and creating a dangerous precedent.
“As the general public can see, the situation in Kano is deteriorating into outright lawlessness, marked by intimidation and abuse of power against state officials. This is coming from a party that claims it will attract foreign investors to Nigeria. Pray tell, how many investors will consider a society where the rule of law is blatantly disregarded by institutions meant to uphold it?” he asked.
The NNPP spokesperson further referenced previous incidents involving the police and the APC in Kano, particularly during the Emirate crisis, describing them as damaging to the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The party called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and ensure professionalism within the force.
“Dr. Egbetokun, a respected professional, must ensure the police uphold the rule of law and desist from further harassment of Dawakin-Tofa. His fundamental human rights are protected under the law and must be respected,” the statement concluded.
