Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has inaugurated the empowerment of 5,000 youths organised by Mr Nasir Ali-Ahmed a member House of Representatives, representing APC Nasarawa constituency.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the member on Saturday began the Empowerment of 1,000 people out of the 5,000 youths with a cash donation of N10,000 each.
“Such gesture, and in the holy month of Ramadan, the beneficiaries will never forget it. And only God can reward anyone who remembers the less privileged people during this period,” Ganduje said.
The governor also commended the lawmaker for the construction of 75 classes in his constituency, saying it would complement the state government’s policy on free and compulsory primary to secondary school education.
Ganduje called on other National and state lawmakers to also copy such gestures, while appealing to the beneficiaries to make proper use of the grant.
The lawmaker explained that N50 million was earmarked for the empowerment of the youths, adding that this is the first batch as other batches including women empowerment are coming soon.
Ali-Ahmed said: “I decided to embark on this empowerment in this holy month of Ramadan because people need such assistance more at this period.
“Every year at exactly this period of Ramadan, we normally give out such grants to assist the less privileged so that they can find it easy during the fasting.
“But that of this year is different from the previous empowerment, because we have expanded it so that people with special needs, religious and traditional leaders, politicians and other people can benefit.”
According to him, as part of his constituency projects, he has constructed over 75 classrooms to support the Federal and state governments in the education sector.
He added that, “I have also provided computers and chairs for about 100 classes, and we are hoping that very soon we are going to commission the classes for the beneficiaries.
“We have also constructed 105 electric and solar boreholes across schools, mosques and also some communities to reduce the challenges they are facing in fetching water.
“Not very long, we trained no fewer than 1,000 youths in GSM repair, and we have provided them with necessary tools and shops to start their businesses. And I was able to secure a government job for over 100 youths.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ahmed Musa commended the lawmaker for the gesture, adding that such will go a long way in alleviating their economic challenges.
He appealed to other lawmakers, government officials, wealthy individuals and politicians to also emulate such kindness, assuring that they would use the grant for the purpose they were given. (NAN)
