The governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party, ADP, in Kano State, Sha’aban Sharada, has faulted the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasir Gawuna, for allegedly using religion to deceive people.
Mr Sharada argued that if the APC candidate truly believes Allah is the Giver, he would not have led a team that allegedly destroyed election results during the collation of the 2019 governorship election in the state.
In 2019 Mr Gawuna, who is the current deputy governor of the state, alongside his running mate, Murtala Garo, and their supporters reportedly stormed an INEC collation center in Nassarawa and destroyed the result sheets for Gama Ward when it became obvious that the APC was losing the election.
The actions of Messrs Gawuna and Garo led to the declaration of the election as inconclusive.
The APC was later declared the winner after a controversial re-run was conducted by INEC.
But speaking at a dialogue organized for governorship candidates in the state at Mambayya House, Kano on Saturday, Mr Sharada called out Mr Gawuna, saying he lacked the moral ground to always claim that victory comes from God.
Quoting a verse from the holy Quran where God admonishes believers to practice what they preach, Mr Sharada accused Mr Gawuna of complicity and deceit.
“Always he [Gawuna] will tell people to fear god. But God has queried those who don’t practice what they say in the holy Qur’an.
“Anywhere he goes he will be deceiving people by saying God has already destined who will win the election. Didn’t you know of these when you led people in 2019 to tear the election result sheets?” he queried.
Mr Sharada, who is a member representing Kano Municipal in the House of Representatives, also accused the ruling party of molesting his supporters and destroying his campaign banners.
He further accused the deputy governor of being part of the corrupt practices allegedly going on in the state, insisting that Mr Gawuna will not escape any credible investigation.
