15 GBV cases were reported in march – Zainab

Zainab Aminu, GBV officer CITAD explained that 15 cases were reported in the month of March through the CITAD GBV App anonymously.

“The reported cases included 1 Rape case, 1 sexual abuse, 1 sexual blackmail, 2 online harassment, 2 school violence, 8 Sexual Harassment and no report on Wife Battering and social media harassment.

“There is an increase in online harassment, sexual blackmail, School violence, and sexual Abuse, decrease in wife bathering and cases like rape and sexual harassment still remains static which makes GBV cases under reported.

“People are still skeptical about their anonymity, we still have under reported cases” she added.

She further noted that ” it is only when we get the correct data of what is happening that we can actually make a statement to the government although we are encouraging people to report GBV cases as keeping quiet only encourages perpetrators.

The Gender Based officer lastly urged the state government to enact laws that protect women and girls, create a referral and forensic centers for victims.
