The Gidan Yanci Fellows have expressed deep concern over the recent resurgence of thuggery, known locally as ‘fadan daba’, in Kano.

Daily News 24 reports that the group in a statement emphasized that the alarming trend threatens the peace and stability of the community.

“This alarming trend poses a significant threat to the peace and stability that our community has long cherished,” the Fellows stated. They stressed the need for immediate and decisive action to address the issue, as thuggery instills fear among residents and endangers innocent lives. “The senseless violence associated with thuggery not only disrupts public order but also tarnishes the reputation of our beloved city of Kano.”

The Gidan Yanci Fellows called on authorities to enhance security measures and swiftly apprehend those responsible for these violent acts. “It is paramount that justice is served and that the rule of law prevails,” they urged.

The Fellows also appealed to the youth to avoid being manipulated into violence and instead focus on constructive activities that benefit society. “We urge our fellow youths to recognize their pivotal role in fostering a peaceful and prosperous Kano State,” they stated.

In addition, the group called on community leaders, religious figures, and stakeholders to promote dialogue, understanding, and tolerance among the youth to combat the scourge of thuggery. “By fostering a culture of peace and mutual respect, we can collectively combat the scourge of thuggery and uphold the values that define our community.”

The Gidan Yanci Fellows reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, unity, and development in Kano and expressed solidarity with law enforcement agencies in their efforts to eradicate thuggery. “Together, let us work towards a future where Kano remains a beacon of harmony and progress for generations to come,” they concluded.
