Gombe gubernatorial candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Khamisu Mailantarki, has offered to pay for external examinations of students of the State if elected.

Mailantarki, a former Member of House of Representatives from Gombe State, stated this during the inauguration of the NNPP Gubernatorial Campaign Council, on Saturday in Billiri town of Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.

He listed fees to be paid by his administration to include the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Examination Council (NECO).

He said if elected, his administration would also ensure that all hindrances to getting quality education by students of the state are removed.

According to him, the burden of educating Gombe children would be borne by the state government, to ensure that parents do not pay a dime as registration fees for all entry examinations into tertiary institutions.

“This is because my government will pay all these fees, so that the poor and vulnerable can get the opportunity of quality education.

“Under my leadership, education will be the right of all Gombe children, irrespective of tribe, religion and ethnicity, because they are the leaders of tomorrow and the hope of Gombe,” he said.

Mailantarki pledged not only to resuscitate the education sector, but to also invest massively in infrastructure, in all sectors, and make “all citizens to be proud of Gombe State again.”

He said he would build good structures and ensure that the environment is conducive for learning, by providing the needed instructional materials, right motivation for all teachers and “we will bring back our scholarship scheme to support tertiary students.”

On his other plans, Mailantarki said he would tackle poverty, hunger, unemployment and provide the right economic policies that would improve the wellbeing of all citizens, especially women and youths.

He appealed to all NNPP supporters to ensure that they collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and elect NNPP candidates at all levels.

“We are with the ordinary people and I assure you all, we will not disappoint, if you vote us into office in 2023,” he said.

He, however, urged his supporters to approach political activities peacefully, and stay away from any form of violence.

“Violence is not our style; power is from God, and God willing, we will succeed, so no need for violence,” he said.

Earlier, the state party chairman, Maikano Abdullahi, thanked Mailantarki for providing N228 million for the house-to-house campaign, as supporters go out to mobilise votes for all NNPP candidates.

Abdullahi said with the calibre of bigwigs from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), joining the NNPP in the state, the party would sweep the polls.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NNPP flags were given to candidates of the party in Gombe South, at the event. (NAN)
