The Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has emphasized the vital role of the Office of the First Lady, noting that the responsibilities left vacant following the death of his wife have become too significant to be neglected.
Governor Eno, in a State-wide broadcast on Friday after a week of mourning, announced his decision to appoint his first daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obereki, to oversee the office, which was previously coordinated by her late mother

Mrs. Obereki will now be responsible for managing the activities of the Office of the First Lady.
During the broadcast, Governor Eno pledged to uphold the values of social empowerment, which his wife championed through her Golden Initiative for All (GIFA). “It is not an easy task ahead, but to continue to sustain the office of the First Lady, I want to please introduce our daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obereki, and hand her over to you, ma,” the governor said while presenting his daughter to Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Okuremi Tinubu, who paid a condolence visit to the Government House in Uyo.
Mrs. Tinubu expressed her condolences to Governor Eno, his family, and the people of Akwa Ibom State, remembering the late Mrs. Eno as a key figure in the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). She assured Governor Eno that her office would work closely with Mrs. Obereki to ensure the continued success of the office’s initiatives in partnership with the national office.
Governor Eno, who described the death of his wife of 38 years as a heavy loss, also appealed to the First Lady to provide guidance to his daughter in her new role.
