The statement clarified that the newly appointed Emirs are to serve as second class leaders, with Kano remaining the first class emirate. The new Emirs are:
- Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz Karaye, appointed as Emir of Karaye. Prior to this appointment, he served as the District Head of Rogo.
- Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, appointed as Emir of Rano. He previously held the position of District Head of Bunkure.
- Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, appointed as Emir of Gaya. He was the emir of the defunct Gaya Emirate.
Governor Yusuf congratulated the newly appointed Emirs and urged them to be custodians of culture, peace, and unity in their respective emirates. He emphasized their critical role in maintaining and promoting the cultural heritage and harmony among the people.
“You are now the custodians of our rich culture and heritage. I urge you to lead with integrity and foster peace and unity within your communities,” Governor Yusuf stated.
This move follows Governor Yusuf’s legislative action on July 16, 2024, when he signed into law the establishment of three second class emirates. The new administrative divisions are as follows:
- Rano Emirate: Encompassing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Local Government Areas.
- Gaya Emirate: Covering Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government Areas.
- Karaye Emirate: Including Karaye and Rogo Local Government Areas.
These appointments are effective immediately, reflecting the governor’s commitment to enhancing the administrative structure and traditional leadership in Kano State.
