Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has commended the committee responsible for distributing school uniforms to primary school pupils for returning N100 million of unspent funds from the N2 billion allocated for the initiative.
Speaking during the distribution of 798,000 school uniforms for Primary One pupils at the Kano Government House, Yusuf described the committee’s honesty as a testament to the transparency and accountability driving his administration.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, Yusuf praised the committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Tajo Othman, for their patriotism and integrity.
“The governor praised the committee, led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Tajo Othman, for their patriotism and integrity,” the statement noted.
Yusuf acknowledged the committee’s God-fearing nature, which ensured the excess funds were returned for use in supporting other government projects. He also lauded the quality of the uniforms provided, assuring the public that the programme would continue annually.
The governor further revealed plans to distribute computers to secondary schools across the state, equipping students with digital literacy skills to prepare them for future opportunities.
Yusuf called on wealthy individuals and corporate organizations to support government efforts to revitalize the education sector. “While the administration is making significant strides, even small contributions can make a transformative difference in the lives of pupils,” he said.
Baffa Garko, Chairman of the Kano State Nigerian Union of Teachers, commended the governor’s commitment to improving education and pledged the union’s support for initiatives aimed at uplifting the sector.
The event included a mock Executive Council session, where pupils debated key state issues, and a quiz competition on the role of social media in nation-building. NNPP supporters also showcased traditional dances and songs to enhance the celebrations.
As part of the event, Yusuf awarded N100,000 to winners in three categories, while the coaches of the mock Executive Council meeting received N500,000 each in recognition of their efforts.
