Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has donated N100 million to support traders affected by the recent fire at Kantin Kwari Textile Market.
The gesture was announced during his visit to the market, where he expressed solidarity with those impacted by the disaster.
Governor Yusuf explained that the financial aid aims to alleviate the losses suffered by the traders. โWhile this money cannot fully compensate for the losses suffered, it is intended to help ease the burden on those affected,โ he stated.

In addition to the donation, the governor outlined a series of initiatives to improve the market’s infrastructure and reduce the likelihood of future incidents. โWe plan to install solar-powered street lights, rehabilitate the road network, construct drainages, and provide motorized boreholes to improve conditions at the market,โ he added.
The fire, which destroyed 29 shops, was swiftly contained due to the prompt response of firefighters. Alhaji Hamisu Saโad Dogon Nama, Managing Director of the Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, praised the efforts of first responders. โWe are grateful to the firefighters and first responders who prevented the fire from spreading further. Their timely intervention made a difference,โ he said.
Alhaji Sabuโu Bako, Chairman of the Market Elders Committee, thanked the governor for his support and urged the state government to address additional operational challenges at the market. โWe thank His Excellency for his concern, and we hope the government can help us resolve some of the ongoing issues at the market,โ Bako noted.
Governor Yusuf reassured the traders of his administrationโs commitment to maintaining Kano’s position as the leading commercial hub in Northern Nigeria. โWe are determined to keep Kano thriving as a centre of commerce not just for Nigeria, but for West Africa,โ he affirmed.
