Gov. Yusuf drops chief of staff, SSG, five others in major cabinet shake-up

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has executed a major reshuffle of his executive council, removing six top officials, including the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, and five commissioners.

Daily News 24 reports that this was disclosed in a press release by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday.

The statement emphasized that the reshuffle was aimed at improving the performance of the state government and ensuring a more efficient and responsive administration. “The decision was made to enhance administrative performance and deliver more democratic dividends to the people of Kano,” the statement read.

As part of the changes, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was dropped due to health reasons. Other officials removed include Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, Commissioner for Finance; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs; Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Commissioner for Special Duties; and Abbas Sani Abbas, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development. These officials have been directed to report to the Governor’s office for potential reassignment.

Several cabinet members were reassigned to new positions as part of the reshuffle. Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education. Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, previously of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has been reassigned to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata will now oversee the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Other reassigned officials include Hon. Amina Abdullahi, who is now in charge of the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disability, and Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, who has been moved to the Ministry of Special Duties.

Several commissioners have retained their positions, including Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, Commissioner for Justice; Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner for Agriculture; and Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Health.
