The Kano State Government has directed the closure of all bank accounts operated by its ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) across the state, ordering that they be consolidated into a single treasury account.

Governor Abba Yusuf issued the directive during a meeting held at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday, citing financial irregularities in various ministries and agencies as the reason behind the decision.
โThe government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct,โ the governor stated. He warned that any ministry or agency that fails to comply with the directive within one week would face legal consequences.
The Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zayyid Abubakar, also addressed the gathering, unveiling a new tax collection plan under the unified treasury account system.
โThis system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds,โ Abubakar explained.
The meeting was attended by top government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, commissioners, heads of ministries and agencies, and representatives from various banks.
