Governor Yusuf highlighted the administrationโs readiness to hold the elections, aligning with the recent Supreme Court judgement that affirmed financial autonomy for local governments. He emphasized the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law, financial prudence, accountability, and transparency at all levels of governance.
โOur administration has allowed the previous Local Government Executive Councils in the 44 LGAs to finish their tenure despite pressure from within. This is out of respect we have for the rule of law,โ Governor Yusuf stated. He added, โSo, our respect for accountability and in consideration of the recent Supreme Court judgment trigger our readiness to conduct council elections.โ
The governor assured stakeholders of a non-interfering stance from the government in the electoral process, urging opposition parties to participate without fear. โWe will not interfere with the electoral process,โ he promised.
Preparations for the council polls are already underway, with the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) working diligently to ensure the elections occur soon. โI can assure you this will hold any time soon,โ Governor Yusuf added.
In preparation for the elections, the NNPP will soon be selecting candidates to run for the offices of chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors across the 44 LGAs. โWe shall run peaceful campaigns with the belief that the majority of Kano people will vote for NNPP,โ the governor concluded.
