Governor Yusuf banned sallah durbar, Kano Police claim

The Kano State Police Command has announced that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has banned all Durbar activities during this year’s Eid-el-Kabir to prioritize public safety.

Daily News 24 earlier reported that the Kano state Governor, Abba Yusuf through Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi criticized the Commissioner of Police for banning Eid-el-Kabir festivities without consulting him.

But in a statement by the Kano Police Spokesman, Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Command emphasized that the ban was made by Governor Yusuf during the “state Council Security Meeting spearhead by the government”

The Kano Police reiterates importance of the decision, noting, “The Kano State Government is committed to prioritizing public safety and security above all considerations. All residents must respect the ban on Durbar activities during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir.”

The police commended the government’s decision and urged residents to respect the ban: “All law-abiding people of the State are urged to continue to cooperate with the Police and alongside other relevant security agencies.”

They assured the public of adequate security measures: “Adequate security deployments have been concluded to ensure low-key hitch-free festive Eid-El-Kabir celebrations during this trying period.”

The statement also included a warning against disruptions: “Joint security agencies will remain steadfast and resolute in maintaining law and order. Any attempt to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the State will result in arrest and prosecution.”

The police thanked the public and traditional institutions for their cooperation: “The Kano State Police Command appreciates and thanks the Kano State Government as well as all the law-abiding residents of the State for their support, understanding, and cooperation.”
